Response of Soil Net Nitrogen Mineralization to a Litter in Three Subalpine Forests

نویسندگان

چکیده

Forest litter accumulation can regulate the soil microclimate and alter nutrient distribution, but effects of quality seasonal differences on nitrogen (N) mineralization are still uncertain. The change rates net N mineralization, nitrification, ammonification were studied through in situ incubation experiments coniferous, mixed, broad-leaved forests eastern Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau. Two treatments established, one to allow enter normally (remain litter) other prevent from entering (remove litter). Soil samples collected at freezing (FS), thawing (TS), early growing (EGS), late (LGS), (EFS) seasons during 1.5-year period. Compared coniferous forests, removal ammonification, more pronounced mainly seasons. Structural equation modeling indicated that microbial biomass (MBN) was a common factor affecting three forest soils. carbon (MBC), mixed moisture, concentration, C:N ratio unique influencing factors different types. results showed effect distribution depended type season, suggesting composition productivity types may cycling processes subalpine ecosystems.

The global stoichiometry of litter nitrogen mineralization.

Plant residue decomposition and the nutrient release to the soil play a major role in global carbon and nutrient cycling. Although decomposition rates vary strongly with climate, nitrogen immobilization into litter and its release in mineral forms are mainly controlled by the initial chemical composition of the residues. We used a data set of approximately 2800 observations to show that these g...

Different soil respiration responses to litter manipulation in three subtropical successional forests

Aboveground litter inputs have been greatly altered by human disturbances and climate change, which have important effects on soil respiration. However, the knowledge of how soil respiration responds to altered litter inputs is limited in tropical and subtropical forests. We conducted an aboveground litterfall manipulation experiment in three successional forests in the subtropics to examine th...

Laboratory and field evaluation of broiler litter nitrogen mineralization.

Two studies were conducted for this research. First, a laboratory incubation to quantify broiler litter N mineralization with the following treatments: two soil moisture regimes, constant at 60% water fill pore space (WFPS) and fluctuating (60-30% WFPS), three soil types, Brooksville silty clay loam, Ruston sandy loam from Mississippi, and Catlin silt loam from Illinois. Second, a field incubat...

Effect of nitrogen fertilization on net nitrogen mineralization in grassland soil of Northern China: implications for grassland management

Nitrogen (N) applications can have a significant effect on soil N availability. The effect of 3 years of N fertilization on soil net N mineralization during the growing season (May–September) was studied in 2005 and 2006 in grassland of northern China. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with four replications of five rates of N addition as urea (0, 2, 4, 8 and 16 g N m year...
